Our current vacancies and opportunities:
Trainee positions
We take on one or two trainee each Summer and begin our recruitment process at Easter. If you are in your final year of school or university send your c.v. and a covering letter explaining why you are interested in joining us to the email address below.
We have two different training processes as follows:
- If you start directly from school we will take you through the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification which will take about three years. This exempts you from some of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW) exams and there is a specific Fastrack route which means you can complete the ICAEW exams in the following two years. Half of our staff have gone through this route.
- From University we feel it is very important that you spend some time learning the ropes rather than launching straight into the professional qualification. During the first few months you will study for the Financial Planning Certificate which is the first stage of qualification for Financial Advisers. This will give you some good background knowledge both for your future studies and actual work. You will then start your ICAEW training contract which will take about 3 years.
Work experience
We take on a number of work experience candidates during the year both from school placements and direct contact. If you are interested in an accountancy career and would like to find out more before you decide, please contact us. Unlike some other placements we always try and give some experience of the type of work that some of our junior members of staff do, rather than using you as a filing clerk or tea maker. Some of our placements enjoy their time so much that they come back in their holidays! We have recruited trainees from among enthusiastic work placement students.
Semi-seniors
With the continued growth of the business we sometimes find our trainees cannot get experience quickly enough and we have vacancies for semi-seniors. The more traditional practice may hold you back, waiting for you to qualify before advancing from the mundane accounts preparation and auditing. While we cannot promise you will not get involved in these areas, as indeed you must, we want you to use your skills and intelligence to benefit the clients. Along with a study package, the training we give and the way our practice is run means that you will be given responsibility for some clients from before you qualify and if you are successful in managing them you will benefit from a bonus scheme. If you are ambitious and looking for challenge and responsibility please contact us.
Partners for new offices
We believe that we now have all the resources available to repeat the success of the Longfield / West Kingsdown experience in numerous other areas throughout the country. In order to do so, we are actively seeking partners for such ventures. Prospective partners could be already running their own practice or be employed elsewhere looking for a career opportunity. Whatever the circumstances, it is crucial that you have the required qualification and experience to be able to apply for a practising certificate with either the Chartered or Certified Institutes immediately.
Merging with other practices
After the success of our merge in 2006 we are confident that we can do it again. We are always on the lookout for business opportunities and if you like the way we work and our philosophy please contact us for a confidential meeting.
Everyone else
The list above is not exhaustive and we are always on the look-out for good candidates from all areas. Apart from accounting roles, we have departments dealing with sales and marketing, administration, bookkeeping and credit control. If you think you have the right qualities to work for us please send an application.
Applications for any of the above positions should be sent to Alastair@stephen-hill.co.uk.
These should include a covering letter/email and a CV. All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.
