Tax protection scheme

Following the mention in a previous newsletter the Inland Revenue have the power to investigate whoever and whenever they see fit.

Unfortunately, you are responsible for all costs in an investigation even if nothing is found to be wrong!

The tax protection scheme mentioned previously covers accountancy fees up to £75,000 for additional work that arises in the event of an enquiry. By joining the scheme you will have peace of mind in the event of an investigation and will be able to draw on the experience of specialists in the event of the enquiry covering unusual issues.

Forthcoming smoking legislation

New regulations to come into force in the summer of 2007 will enforce the complete ban of smoking in all public places and commercial premises in England. Employers who currently provide a smoking area inside of the building need to be made aware that when the new regulations come into force this will also be prohibited. The ban will also include any indoor or sheltered smoking areas located outside of the business premises as both of these create passive smoking hazards.

Data from employment law experts Croner shows although 72% of bosses believe they are already compliant with the forthcoming rules, 48% admit to currently providing a smoking area.
