According to a news report from the BBC there are now thought to be 200,000 malicious software programs in existence. Most of these are aimed at computers using Microsoft Windows. The program problems can arrive on your pc via instant messenger, email, or even through your Internet connection if you visit the wrong website.
With so many threats to Windows users it is vital that you have anti-virus software on your pc and that it is frequently updated. Anti-virus software is widely available and although subscriptions seem expensive it is worth considering the costs you could face if for example, you were a victim of identity theft.
If you are worried about your computer, online companies such as Trend Micro, Kaspersky and Microsoft all over a free scanning service where you can have your computer scanned to see if it is infected.
